A thighplasty is a surgical method for lifting and reshaping sagging or dimpled skin around the thighs. The thighs are often one of the areas of the body most affected by the effects of aging and major weight loss, especially with gastric bypass surgery. Outer thighlift and inner thighlift are different procedures used to address different areas of the thigh.
A thighplasty procedure effectively removes the excess fat deposits and skin from around the circumference of the thighs, creating a firmer, more toned and youthful appearance. The procedure can take anywhere from 3 to 5 hours, depending on the patient’s condition. It is usually done under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. Scars are generally placed in area that can be hidden by panty for swimsuit. However, in some circumstances, the inner thighlift may require a vertical incision along the inner thigh for full correction.
Swelling and bruising is common. Most patients return to work after 2-3 weeks. Strenuous activity, however, should be avoided for the first month to six weeks after a thighplasty.
