Brachioplasty – Arm Lift Surgery
Brachioplasty (also known as arm lift), is a surgical procedure to reduce the loose and sagging skin of the upper arm to create a more attractive appearance. Best candidates are those patients who have lost weight resulting in loose skin in the upper arms or patients who simply have loose skin due to aging. Liposuction of the upper arms may be combined with the lift to reduce excess fat thus reducing circumference of the upper arm. If excess fat is the only concern, then only liposuction is necessary.
Depending on the severity of the skin laxity, the scar of the armlift can be limited to the armpit or may be lengthened to the elbow. Usually, the scar fades well and is not as visible in the distant future. After the armlift, pain and discomfort will occur in moderate levels with variation among patients. Swelling of the arm and hand is usually seen following armlift and may take a few months to resolve completely. Some bruising may occur and will resolve in a few weeks.
Brachioplasty is usually performed on an outpatient basis at a fully accredited, state-of-the-art surgical facility using the latest equipment available. The procedure is outpatient, done under general anesthesia, and takes about 3 to 4 hours to complete. You may return to work in about 2 to 3 weeks.
